In his message, Uhuru said that he is impressed with the exercise, terming a great milestone in the democracy of the nation.

The head of state assured Geingob that he will continue supporting his government as he seeks to leave behind a legacy as he starts the term in office.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a congratulatory message to President Hage Geingob of Namibia following his re-election for a second term,” reads a tweet by The State House.

“The President reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with President Geingob and the ruling SWAPO Party on strengthening bilateral ties between Nairobi and Windhoek,” he added.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Saturday announced the incumbent president the winner of the election.

The re-elected president has survived one of the biggest graft scandals that have ever rocked the country.

He has also won the election at the backdrop of the fractured ruling party and economic recession characterized by a lack of jobs and other effects.

He first won the seat in 2014 after garnering 87 per cent of the votes. In his acceptance speech, Geingob said that he is a proud man after the citizens showed confidence in his leadership.

“I am just a proud Namibian that we could have free and fair elections, no fighting, no attacking each other, free movement was allowed,” said Geingob.
