Nyamira County women representative Jerusha Momanyi on Thursday launched the National Affirmative Action Fund Bursaries and scholarship for Nyamira County needy students.

Speaking  at Nyansabakwa high school during the launch, the  Jubilee MP said a total of 610 students from secondary, college and technical institutions who are either total orphans, partial orphans , families of people living with disabilities, and very needy students benefited.

"An investment in education pays the best interest. I am committed to ensure needy and bright students in Nyamira County are in school to get proper education for a bettee future," she said.

The MP called on parents across the county to invest in thier children through education.

"Parents should step up efforts and ensure thier children are in school because it is through education we will have qualified teachers, doctors, nurses, police officers and future politicians," she added. 

She said the over Sh3 million released to students will help parents settle fee balances they owe various colleges, unversities and secondary schools. 

She warned cartels against interfering with the funds saying she will not condone corrupt individuals to tarnish her name. 

She appealed to Nyamira leaders to deliver services to boost the lives of people in villages across the county.
