Shock and grief engulfed residents of Subukia in Nakuru County on Tuesday after a 14-year-old student who had been reported missing was found dead.
Subukia Sub-County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga who confirmed the incident said the girl was found dead in a maize plantation.
Imbwaga said the Form One student did not return home on Monday after school, adding that her body was found by residents on Tuesday.
The police boss said they have launched investigations into the incident, noting that the girl was still in her school uniform when the body was found.
“The girl failed to return home on Monday evening after school and her body was discovered at the expansive Mathenge maize plantation,” said Imbwaga as quoted by the Daily Nation.
The police commander said they have arrested a 28-year-old suspect in connection to the crime and he is being held at the Kirengero Police Station in Subukia.
The girl’s father, Charles Sigei, said they searched for his missing daughter on Monday evening and were shocked to find her dead the next day.
Sigei asked the police to arrest the individuals behind her daughter’s murder and ensure justice is served.
“I was called on Monday evening by my wife, who told me that Chesiere had failed to return home from school. I immediately advised them to begin looking for her. It was in the morning after hours of searching that we found my daughter’s body dumped deep inside the maize plantation,” said Sigei.
“My daughter was a hardworking and promising girl. I call upon the police to investigate the matter and ensure my daughter’s killers are apprehended and punished,” he added.
