The students were protesting against the introduction of fee payment deadline.

The students carried placards and twigs as they walked across the campus with some leaving the compound to Kakamega town in protest against the administration.

The students went to the point of stoning a van belonging to the institution as the demonstrations ran out of hand.

Police were called and they swung into action dispersing the students with teargas.

The police were also compelled to arrest an unknown number of students during the demonstration. A memo indicates that the students want the administration to remove fee payment deadline.

The students have warned that they would go on strike if their issues are not resolved. The administration had made official communication over the deadline for the payment of fees.

“This is to inform you that the deadline for reporting online, payment of fees and registration of courses has been extended to October 4, 2019,” read the memo from the Academic registrar, as quoted by Standard.

The memo added: “Students who will not have paid all the fees and registered their courses will not be considered as students and shall be deemed to have deferred their studies."
