Western Kenya leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of abandoning the region.
Speaking at the Nabongo Grounds in Mumias on Saturday, the group led by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali claimed Uhuru has failed to repay the risk they took to campaign for him, in an ODM-allied region in the 2017 polls.
They accused the Head of State of not doing anything to revive the ailing industrialisation sector in the region, as he bails out the similar sector in other regions.
Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama claimed that the president has only been favouring his Central Kenya backyard, and the Nyanza region but has abandoned Western Kenya.
"Uhuru has directed Treasury to give Sh3 billion for coffee, Sh2 billion for tea and Sh3 billion to milk farmers in Central and Sh3 billion for the port of Kisumu. When it came to Western, he said he was waiting for a report,” he said.
Other leaders present were John Waluke (Sirisia), Rashid Echesa (former Sports Cabinet Secretary), Malulu Injendi (Malava), Justus Murunga (Matungu), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili) and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.
The group allied to DP Ruto also accused Uhuru of frustrating them and the DP.
They now want the government to allocate funds for the revival of the collapsed factories and not loans as has been the case.
