Norah Jepchirchir, 30,  was declared permanently blind by medics at the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital where she has been receiving treatment after the assault.

The declaration was made by opticians who have been attending to her at the hospital on Friday, causing anguish and tears among her relatives.

The victim expressed her sadness after the declaration, saying that she would rather lose her limbs instead of her eyesight, she added that nothing was stolen from her.

“I will no longer see, they did not take my money but decided to pluck my eyes out. I would rather they had even chopped my hands or legs," she painfully said.

Speaking at the hospital, the medical officer in charge of the eye unit, Benjamin Kariuki noted that the medics applied all possible efforts in a bid to restore her eyesight, even as relatives pushed for more.

He added that the woman has already been placed under counselling to help her cope with her new situation.

She was attacked at Camp David while going home before she was rescued by police officers from the nearby Eldama Ravine Police Station who rushed her to the Eldama Ravine sub -ounty Hospital.

No arrests have been made yet.
