Former National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Isaac Ruto has laid bare the reasons that informed his exit from the alliance immediately after its loss to the Jubilee Party.
NASA which rallied behind Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga rejected his loss to President Uhuru Kenyatta, after which Raila took a mock oath.
Speaking on Tuesday, the former Bomet Governor said that he moved out to let the country settle after the polls, claiming that there were some alarming signs in NASA.
He said that there were suggestions in the team, which also includes Kalonzo Musyoka (WDM), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) to even reject the elections and not petition the outcome, which in his opinion would have resulted in unrest.
"I told them no, I don't want to be a party to a situation that will lead to bloodshed in this country. I have seen it before in 2007. I don't want anybody to die because Isaac Ruto rejected the elections," he said.
The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party boss who was speaking on Citizen TV's News Night confirmed that just like the rest, he too believed that Jubilee manipulated the elections.
He said that despite that, he was not going to be a part of a group that was going to take risks with the peace in the country, pleas that did not work, forcing him to walk away.
"I told them no, I don't want blood in my hands, let there be no killings, let's allow Jubilee to proceed, we believe the future will be better," he added.
He would later be seen rejoining the Jubilee brigade in the course of Uhuru's campaigns for the October 26 presidential reruns, following Raila's successful petition at the Supreme Court.
Raila would later boycott the rerun, before taking a mock oath at Uhuru Park on January 30, 2018, an event that was skipped by Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetangula.
