Joyce Akinyi along with Peris Anyango Omondi and Paulin Kalala Musankinshay were accused of trafficking in the drugs worth Sh 5,588,580 contrary to section 4(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances control Act of 1994.

They appeared before Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts magistrate Christine Njagi.

The three were arrested last month in Nairobi, making it the forth time Akinyi, who is closely connected with politicians, was being thrown to police cell.

They are alleged to have been caught with heroine at Deep West Resort within Nairobi on July 13, 2019.

Akinyi and Omondi are further charged with possessing forged Democratic Republic of Congo passports contrary to section 54(1)(c) of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act No. 12 of 2011.

Through their lawyers John Ogada, Dorcas Osabwa and Elvis Abenga the accused pleaded with the court to be released on favourable cash bail.

“I request the court to grant us all the witness statements, documentary exhibits and inventories of property taken from the accused persons,” said Ogada.

“The two persons should report to the police station once every week and not travel without informing the court,” ruled Njagi.

In 2008, Akinyi was arrested with Budalang'i MP Raphael Wanjala in India but the ministry of Foreign Affairs intervened for their release.

And years later, the two were also arrested along Namanga border but they denied being involved in drug trafficking. She has been under police surveillance and will return to court on August 27.
