News on social media spread fast when it emerged that Safaricom's Platinum data purchasing option was 'awarding' free monthly package to its customers.

It was later alleged that the company had developed a technical issue which resulted in their systems to malfunction thus allowing users to access free data, messages and even fee calling minutes.

However, the hitch was rectified within the shortest time possible, but a section of subscribers had already 'robbed' the company.

Kenyans took social media to share their happiness after getting the free package while others could only share their regrets for missing out on the unexpected 'offer'.

Others thought that it was one of the ways the company employed in celebrating with its esteemed customers after Harambee Stars came from behind twice to beat Tanzania's Taifa Stars in the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

The thread was started by renowned singer Nyashinski who tweeted; "Congratulations to #Safaricom, you did well to Kenyans this morning. . Bundles za maana."

His tweet has since gone viral, attracting more than one thousand retweets
