There is a need for county governments to better welfare of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), this is according to a Nakuru human rights network.
In an exclusive interview with Hivisasa on Thursday, Joseph Omondi from Midrift Human Rights Network says the work the community health volunteers do in the community is paramount and should not be neglected.
The Human Rights defender says the county governments have a responsibility to ensure better welfare for CHVs.
This, he says, can be done through better budgeting for the health docket.
"We are saying the counties should now consider the CHVs so that they can also feel appreciated," Omondi said.
Most CHVs, according to the human rights defender, are operating in a poor situation with only a stipend of Sh2,000 monthly.
Midrift Human Rights Network is already working with a number of CHVs in implementing their projects and according to Omondi, this is just the beginning and counties should now work towards the same and ensure better welfare for CHVs.
