Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta following the arrest of Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
In a tweet, the senator said that Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in power, deserves credit following the decision to arrest Rotich and other 27 officials from the government over the loss of billions in the Arror & Kimwarer dams projects.
Rotich was arrested shortly after he surrendered to the police following a directive from Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Nordin Haji.
Mutula also said that the officials should be asked to resign from their positions because they have proven to be incompetent as far as service delivery is concerned.
“The arrest and intended of CS Rotich and PS Thugge is a bold admission of a grand heist by the purse keeper. It is not enough to prosecute; they should be relieved of their duties. It is not a contradiction of chapter 6 on leadership and integrity. Kudos Mr. President,” he tweeted
DPP Haji had faulted the suspects of misusing their offices. Haji noted his office is committed to the fight against graft, adding that different measures have been put in place to ensure corruption is a thing of the past.
The DCI also said that his team will continue digging deeper into the matter until the suspects behind the saga are charged over the same.
"Public corruption is a blatant abuse of power by persons in positions of authority and it threatens the very fabric of our society. Nobody is above the law no matter how powerful," he said.
The arrest continues to elicit mixed reactions from different quarters in the country.
Rotich, and 27 other officers will be arraigned in court today following their arrest.
