A Kisumu girl who did not receive a calling letter to join form one in any school in the country is now appealing for assistance so as to join secondary school.
Unlike most of her peers who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) last year, Charity Faith never received a calling letter.
The 14-year-old girl said she went to school and was told her calling letter did not come.
“We went to various cyber to search for the letter but it was not available,” said Faith who sat for her KCPE exams at Bridge Kigadili, in Kisumu’s Nyalenda Estate during an interview in Kisumu on Monday.
This writer visited the Ministry of Education’s website on 2020 form one placements, and indeed no calling letter came forth.
Keying in the County, Sub County and index number, the platform does not produce her name, index number, marks, sub-county, school selected to, school category and school type. It is all blank.
Charity Faith scored 298 marks in KCPE. Her dream is to pursue her studies and become a banker.
According to her mother Josephine Onyango, the head of her former school gave them Faith’s National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) number to help them get a school for her.
“The number helped us get a chance at the Xaverian Secondary School last week,” said Josephine.
She says they need Sh20,000 to cater for her daughter’s school fees this year, besides catering for other requirements such as school uniform; an amount they can’t raise.
“We need help in order for her to enrol in school. I have no job while her father is a small scale farmer in Busia,” said the mother.
Faith is the third born in a family of four.
