The dramatic arrest of embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is continuing to elicit mixed reactions with Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga being the latest to criticize the manner in which he was arrested.
The Governor was arrested on Friday in Voi, shortly after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji issued a warrant of arrest against him.
However, it was the manner in which Sonko was arrested that has irked Senator Omanga.
According to the legislator, as much as she supports the war on corruption, the fight should be within the confirmed of the law.
"We all support efforts to nail those who dip their fingers into public coffers and drain them dry as long as the rule of law is generously applied and honesty in dealing with such cases is strictly adhered to. However, as concerns Governor Sonko's case, there is a cause to worry," read part of Omanga's post on her Facebook page, Saturday.
"The handling of the case, from the media blitz created by the DPP to his violent arrest is similitude of political witchhunt and attempts to reduce to rubble a man who has been a thorn in the flesh of Nairobi cartels," she added.
With the Governor expected to be arraigned in Court on Monday to face graft charges, the Senator exuded confidence that the justice system will offer Sonko an opportunity to defend himself and "debunk prosecution narratives".
Sonko is reportedly being detained at the Lari police station, in Kiambu.
