In a tweet on Saturday, Murkomen, who is also the Senate Majority Leader, said that MCAs should take advantage of the proposal by the former Presidential candidate to stamp authority in their leadership.

“MCAs have the greatest opportunity to stamp their authority by supporting @EAukot‘s Punguza Mzigo initiative. MCAs have been despised for far too long. They should approve it overwhelmingly to remind all&sundry that devolution &its institutions matter. Forward the baby to Senate,’ he tweeted.

Aukot has been urging MCAs to support the bill after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) verified the signatures needed to amend the constitution

Speaking during a press conference on Friday in Nairobi, Aukot pleaded with the lawmakers to back the proposals.

“I am urging all our leaders and Kenyans at large to take this initiative positively, support it and remove any kind of politics from it. I am certain that if no politics will be included in this bill, then all the 47 counties will back it up,” Aukot said.

The proposal has already started to elicit mixed reactions from different leaders.
