The lawmaker said that the audio was edited by some individuals with malicious intentions against him. He said that he once worked in Rwanda during the genocide, adding that he could not engage in such a conversation.

"That audio [about Kiambaa church massacre victims] was edited," he said. Tuju added: " The tape was manipulated. I am sensitive about certain things. I was a journalist and I covered the Rwanda genocide.

The audio, which went viral featuring voices suspected to be those of Tuju and Nyanja caused a storm in Jubilee. Several leaders including Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit and Kandara MP Alice Wahome demanded his resignation.

The leaders said that the remarks, which were seen to target DP Ruto, were meant to cause cracks in Jubilee. They faulted the lawmaker of attempting to divide the party and wanted him ousted with immediate effect.

“We cannot have a secretary-general who betrays the very government we have formed, he must go and let the party pick someone else,” Wahome said at a past incident after the audio surfaced online.
