Deputy President William Ruto has been asked to rethink his overreliance on Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa in his bid to lure the Coast region into supporting him.
Over the past few months, the Malindi MP has become a Ruto's political pillar in the Coast region which has loyally supported ODM leader Raila Odinga for over 10 years now.
However, despite his spirited effort to swing the region from the former Prime Minister, Ruto's political fortunes in the pro-Raila area seem not to be going according to his plans.
According to local political analyst Mohamed Kassim, Jumwa's brand of politics is partly to blame for Dr Ruto's dwindling fortunes in the region.
"Jumwa's close ties to Ruto and the DP's reliance on her to penetrate Kilifi is central to the collapse of Ruto network in the region," claimed Kassim as quoted by the Standard.
The analyst believes that the DP may be forced to rethink his strategy in the region, including dumping Jumwa whom he claims has " monopolized" Dr. Ruto.
Jumwa's popularity and ability to deliver votes for Ruto was recently tested during the Ganda Ward by-election which saw ODM's candidate Reuben Katana triumph after defeating pro-Jumwa independent candidate Abdul Omar come second.
