Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta reconciled in March 2018 after several days of street battles involving their supporters.

In Kitui on Saturday, Odinga, in reference to Deputy President William Ruto, revisited the controversial 2017 polls, remarks which were mistaken for Uhuru.

Dr Ruto has been on Raila's neck, often accusing him of rejecting election results, despite nullification of 2017 polls.

"We asked him to allow free and fair polls by cleaning IEBC. I asked Kalonzo to drop from the race. Who can you run yourself and claim you've won," Odinga said.

But in a quick rejoinder, Kuria accused Mr Odinga of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta following the remarks.

"Raila heshimu Rais Uhuru Kenyatta. Do not insult him. What has he done for you to call him mchawi?" he wondered, in a Facebook post alongside a video of Raila.

Uhuru and Raila are now spearheading the Building Bridges Initiative, with the end result being a possible referendum to change governance structure.

Raila has been asked to lead the field campaigns with President Uhuru Kenyatta helping on logistical support.
