A Kisumu hotel manager accused of shooting a man dead over a space lot wrangle was on Monday arraigned in court to answer to charges of murder.
Senior Principal Magistrate Jocelyne Mitey heard that Daniel Jaoko, the Raygreen Hotel manager, shot Coast Bus driver Joseph Otieno at Polyview Estate in Kisumu on Saturday.
She was told that the accused shot the deceased after being requested to remove his vehicle which was blocking Otieno's car on the estate's driveway, at around 5pm.
The judge granted the prosecution's application to hold Jaoko for seven days to give room for investigations, and to allow for the the outcome of a postmortem conducted on the body.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, County Police Commands Benson Maweu said that the suspect shot in the air before shooting Otieno three times in the chest.
He said that the suspect who had dropped his girlfriend in the estate later surrendered at the Kondele Police Station alongside the woman, and were both detained.
The police boss said that Mr Jaoko's foreayrm had 15 rounds of ammunition at the time of the incident, with 42 more found after a search in his house.
Th e deceased died while undergoing treatment at the Avenue Hospital in Kisumu.
