For years, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire have not been friends so to speak, with their rivalry seen as permanent.

The former Kitutu Masaba MP, who commands a sizeable following just like Matiang'i, has often accused the minister of plotting for his defeat through rigging in 2017.

However, on Sunday at Kerumbe, Bosire for the first time met and recognized Matiang'i, with the two leaders embracing each other as other politicians looked on.

Even more importantly, Bosire for the first time supported unity, an indication of an impending partnership with Matiang'i, who is about to join politics.

"For us to succeed, we have to unite. We must stop this nonsense of fighting every time. I am happy that the entire leadership is around," he said.

"Just like our leaders have said, we have to work together. Let's stop unnecessary politics and support one another for a successful Gusii," Matiang'i echoed Bosire's sentiments.

While Matiang'i represented President Uhuru Kenyatta during the burial of Mzee Stephen Mogeni, Bosire represented Raila Odinga, an indication that the two are undoubtedly most influential politicians.

Former Manga MCA Peter Maroro says the union between Matiang'i and Bosire will consolidate votes for handshake candidate in 2022 polls.

"If they shall work together, Gusii voters will be united on ballot. But their unity will affect some politicians since Matiang'i will now be neutral in county politics," he said.

Already, a number of politicians, some critics of Bosire, are raiding on Matiang'i's popularity to push for their 2022 agenda in the region. The reunion will likely affect them.
