Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has been pushing for the realization of changes that will reduce the number of elective seats under his 'Punguza Mizigo' initiative.

But, the former Subukia MP on Saturday questioned Aukot's change of heart towards the constitution, considering that he is part of the team that drafted the 2010 law book.

Speaking on Saturday, Koigi wondered what suddenly changed and why the former presidential aspirant now wants the nation to head back to the referendum, only nine years later.

"He is part of the team that wrote this Constitution. How come he didn't spot these issues? (Yeye alikuwa mmoja ya walioandika hii katiba, mbona hakuona kasoro hizi zote?)," he posed.

He made the remarks in an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday.

However, he pledged his support for Aukot's push for lesser elective positions, but predicted an uphill task for the constitutional lawyer in the coming days.

Wamwere said the Bill will most likely be properly dealt with by Parliament, which it seeks for reduce to slightly above 100 seats.

However, he noted that the Bill is representing the feelings of the common citizen suffering under the heavy wage bill, cautioning MPs of punishment should they shoot it down.

"We might face some opposition from MPs. But they too will be dealt with by the citizens in the elections. (Tunaweza kukutana na upinzani kutoka kwa wabunge. Lakini na wao pia huenda wakashughulikiwa na wananchi katika uchaguzi)" added the former Assistant Minister.

The Bill has since been pushed to the county assemblies after receiving a green-light from the IEBC.
