Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has taken a swipe against Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i over his latest orders against governors.
On Wednesday, Dr Matiang'i insisted that counties should ensure pending bills are paid in time to avoid inconveniencing SMEs.
The interior minister, who was accompanied by a number of government officials, threatened to take actions against governors who delay payments.
"The @KeTreasury has released the full allocations of the equitable share of revenue due to county governments," said Matiang'i.
"We expect all the devolved units that haven't honoured their obligations of paying eligible pending bills to do so without further delay."
The government has in the past accused of delaying money meant for suppliers, thus indirectly affecting money circulation.
However, Cheruiyot wondered why Matiang'i was specifically targeting governors yet the National Government is often accused of delaying payment.
"Before you speak of counties, what is the % of compliance to this policy by national government ? SMEs are going down due to non-payment by GOK. Walk the very talk you are urging counties to," he wrote.
Ironically, despite Matiang'i's focus on Governors, suppliers to prison department, which is under Matiang'i, on Tuesday held demonstrations over their pending bills.
