The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has ordered Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari to surrender themselves at Integrity Centre.
In a statement on Saturday, EACC said that they are yet to arrest Waititu, his wife and five others in connection to alleged graft allegations involving Sh588 Million.
EACC stated that only three arrests have been made, adding that detectives are hunting down other suspects.
On Friday, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for Waititu's arrest and prosecution over Sh588 million graft allegations.
The DPP said that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute the governor alongside 12 other suspects.
Haji claimed that the Kiambu Governor and other suspects are being prosecuted over alleged irregular procurement for the upgrading of several roads in Kiambu County.
“I find that the award of the contract for Ksh.588, 198,328.20 in respect to tender No.CGK/RTPW&U/142/2017-2018- for the upgrading of various gravel roads to Bitumen surface in Thika, Limuru, Gatundu North, Juja and Ruiru sub-counties was skewed in favour of M/s Testimony Enterprises Ltd, and the county government officials were culpable," the statement by DPP read.
Haji added: “The directors of M/s Testimony Enterprises Ltd were close associates of Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu Babayao, the Governor of Kiambu County. The total amount of Ksh.147,274,055.39 have so far been irregularly paid to Testimony Enterprises Ltd in relation to the subject tender.”
Waititu and other suspects are facing charges of abuse of office, willful failure to comply with procurement laws and false acquisition of public property.
Waititu's arrest order comes days after former Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Henry Rotich and other suspects were arrested and charged in court over the multi-billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
