Police in Migori County are investigating an incident where a Tanzanian national allegedly hacked his lover to death on Sunday night.
33-year-old Magrate Akinyi is said to have been hacked to death by the man in their rented house in Muhuru Bay, after which the suspect reportedly fled the scene.
The incident was confirmed by Kithi Sub Location Assistant Chief Dickens Nyanguso, who said that locals were alarmed after seeing blood flowing from inside the house.
He added that the deceased had moved in with the suspect a few days before the incident after separating with her husband.
"They were living together with the man who is suspected to have committed the crime. We are yet to identify the suspect, but some sources have told the police he could have escaped to Tanzania,” said the administrator.
Migori County Police Boss Joseph Nthenge also confirmed the incident, saying that investigations have kicked off.
He urged members of the public to cooperate in the probe by handing any helpful information to the law enforcers.
“We are requesting members of the public who might have any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to the police,” he said.
The body of the deceased was collected by the police who moved it to the Migori County Referral Hospital morgue.
