Victims of the floods that hit Tana River County have accused the government of neglecting them.
The locals are now blaming the government for the problems they are experiencing citing that the government has the ability to bring their woes to an end.
The victims not only lost their homes but also their property and sources of income.
Some of the schools in the area were also swept away hence putting students at a crossroads as schools are set to open.
Kenya Red Cross Society has been at the forefront giving aid to the affected people.
Leaders from the area have advised the County Government to work together with the national Government and assist the victims.
“Why can’t the government build dykes in Tana Delta the same way it did in Budalang’i to stop or at least minimise the effects of floods? Our people should not be allowed to suffer like this year in, year out,” Garsen MP Ali Guyo posed on Sunday in Tana River.
“We were hoping the government would come to our rescue, but we are yet to get any help and our people are suffering,” Kipini West MCA Musa Wario added.
The victims are now living in fear of an outbreak of cholera after cases of dysentery and malaria were reported.
Some of the areas affected by the floods include; Mwanja, Odole, Samicha, Handaraku and Sogan villages.
