Deputy President William Ruto has yet again stepped forth to defend Jubilee party which is facing fierce internal wrangles for several months now.
Already, the party has split to Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga movements. The former pushes for service delivery while the latter campaigns for DP Ruto's succession bid.
And on Wednesday in Nairobi, Dr Ruto said Jubilee party is focused in uniting Kenyans and getting rid of politics of ethnicity, adding that it's still firm.
"Nimeskia watu wengi wakisema mambo ya chama cha Jubilee. I want to make it clear that when we formed Jubilee, we never based it on the narrative of winning elections or getting power.
"The Jubilee party was formed to promote peace, to bring Kenyans together and to do away with politics of ethnicity. That is the philosophy of Jubilee party. I want to assure you that Jubilee will stand firm on that principle of uniting the country," he said.
On Sunday, Dr Ruto took a swipe at party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, accusing him of wrecking the party from within by campaigning for Mr Raila Odinga.
“So our democracy is so liberal that the SG of a ruling party has become the chief strategist of the opposition!! Maajabu (Wonders!!),” the DP wrote.
But through Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, ODM party refuted the claims, arguing that the party had enough advisors. Tuju has been under siege from Dr Ruto's allies.
“We are currently in the process of restoring sanity in our party and the claims that are being propagated are ill-advised,” he said.
He added: “Tuju has never been Raila’s advisor and we are worried about this new scheme by a section of Jubilee leaders to divide ODM.”
Efforts to have Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting have stalled with sources saying that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not keen to convene one.
