Speaking in Siaya county on Sunday, Muturi said he doesn't support the push to amend the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) proposals through Parliament.

In a response on Monday, the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator lashed out at the Speaker over the remarks, further taking issue with his statement that he will not approve the exercise.

He said it is not the work of the Speaker to decide what is taken to the house for debate, adding that his job is solely to preside over the house as it carries out its roles.

"The Speaker is just a parliament servant, he has no opinion of his own. Saying he will not approve discussion of the amendments is like saying he will not do his job. (Spika ni mtumishi tu wa bunge, he has no opinion of his own. Kusema hataaprove ni kama kusema hatafanya kazi yake)," he said on Radio Citizen, Monday morning.

He dismissed Muturi's claims that the National Assembly has no ability to discuss the amendment suggestions, adding that he hopes he was  misquoted by the media.

"If they won't approve it, we will. As the leader if majority, I will table the motion in the house. (Na kama hawatapitisha sisi tutaipitisha. Mimi kama kiongozi wa wengi nitapeleka mswada bunge)," he added.
