The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report will heavily influence the outcome of the 2022 presidential elections, South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro has said.
Osoro said the proposed changes, if passed, will force those eyeing the nation's top leadership to reconsider their moves, given that it proposes a slightly larger leadership.
He argued that the introduction of a Prime Minister (PM) position will complicate the equation, adding that the PM post will decide the winning team, as Kenyans are likely to rally behind a candidate promising a balanced leadership.
"It will change the direction 2022 polls will take if approved, the one who will be president will have a hard task of ensuring that he has a balanced government. (Hii itabadilisha direction ya siasa za 2022 kwa sababu kama itapita, yule atakuwa rais atakuwa na kazi ngumu ya kubalance serikali yake)," he said.
He spoke to Milele FM's Alex Mwakideu during a live coverage from the Bomas of Kenya, where President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make the BBI report public later in the day.
Osoro, a member of the ruling Jubilee Party, said the report has ashamed some political players, especially ODM leader Raila Odinga.
He said contrary to Raila's initial claims that it would be a powerful "tsunami", the BBI report has come out as a friendly document, with good recommendations and open for debate.
"I am still waiting for the said tsunami. I was not amused by the remarks as the BBI was intended to unite Kenyans. (Mimi nangoja bado ile tsunami ilisemwa. Lakini hayo matamshi hayakunifurahisha maana hii BBI ilikuwa ilete wakenya pamoja)," he said.
