Over 140,000 enumerators were recruited to count people across the country, in an exercise which is carried out in every decade for planning purposes.

But at Ekerenyo, a number of youths tried to resist the exercise on Monday on pretext that they were denied jobs by the KNBS.

However, police in the region acted swiftly by arresting those who tried to block enumerators from executing their duties in compliance to the law.

"We had some youths trying to resist the exercise. They ran away on grounds that they were not employed. Police arrested two women," said Dennis Marube, an ICT officer.

County Commissioner Amos Mariba warned citizens against boycotting the exercise, arguing that it's not only criminal but also unacceptable.

"It's senseless to run away from census. It's just counting that helps to plan for resources which we have. Those running away will not be spared," he told reporters.

The region has witnessed a number of bizarre incidents with an ICT officer being arrested last week for placing a laptop as collateral after failing to pay beer bills.
