A senior police officer was presented in court on Thursday on the allegations of colluding with a woman to murder her husband.
The suspect, Francis Barasa Simiyu, who is a county communication officer at Machakos police headquarters was arrested on Tuesday at his residence in Kitale after dodging arrest since the incident in 2017, Daily Nation reports.
The accused was availed in court on Wednesday where he was expected to take a plea.
Kitale Resident Magistrate Mary Osoro, however, said her court lacked jurisdiction over the case.
Chief Magistrate Valentine Wandera consequently referred the case to another court
The police officer is facing accusations of killing John Wamalwa Nyongesa between August 21 and September 3, 2017.
It is reported that the deceased's wife Jackline Walekhwa Wanjala contracted him to kill her husband.
Appearing before Ms Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Immaculate Moranga, the suspect pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution opposed a bail application.
"We object to bond terms since the suspect has been at large since the offence was committed," prosecutor Marion Konga stated as quoted by Daily Nation.
"It has taken manpower and resources to have him arrested. He is a flight risk and if given bond he is likely to abscond," Konga added.
He was denied bond and will be remanded at the Kitale GK Prison while waiting for the case to be mentioned on November 5.
