The president of the United States of America has called off a meeting with the Taliban leadership that was scheduled for Sunday.
This comes after the Taliban claimed responsibility for the killing of a U.S soldier who was killed last week in an attack that led to the deaths of 11 other people.
President Trump announced the cancellation on Twitter.
He contended that the Taliban had demonstrated an inability and unwillingness to respect ceasefires.
"What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position?" His tweet read.
“If they cannot agree to a ceasefire during these very important peace talks, and would even kill 12 innocent people, then they probably don’t have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement anyway. How many more decades are they willing to fight?" The tweet continued.
The secret meeting which was to be held at Camp David was aimed at bringing together the Taliban and the Afghanistan government to discuss the possibility of a political settlement.
In 2001, the U.S sent its forces in Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban from power which was reportedly habouring terrorists in the country.
Talks with the group were slated to happen just days to the anniversary of 9/11.
The US has been held in secret talks with the Taliban in a bid to put an end to hostilities.
