Renowned academic and socio-political commentator Professor Edward Kisiang'ani has weighed in on the 'harassment' of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen in Kitui.
In a tweet on Saturday night, the Kenyatta University don took issue with the manner in which the two leaders were treated at the Kitui Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting.
He held the view that a climate of political intolerance was being allowed to take hold.
"In the Kitui BBI political rally today several leaders, including Senator Murkomen and Gatundu South rep Moses Kuria, seen as holding contray opinion on the way forward on BBI were harassed. We are perfecting a regrettable narrative in political intolerance!" Prof Kisiang'ani tweeted.
In a video shared widely online, the outspoken Gatundu South legislator is seen being pushed back and forth by angry youths, as he tried to make his way towards the BBI podium.
At one point, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu ordered the governing Jubilee lawmaker be removed from the meeting, but she later changed her mind and Kuria was allowed on the podium.
