A section of Western Kenya leaders have vowed to hold a meeting on Saturday in Kakamega County despite police ruling it out.
The leaders majorly MPs elected on Jubilee, ANC and Ford Kenya parties, have planned to have a meeting in Mumias, as the rest of the community convenes at Bukhungu stadium for a BBI forum.
However, the police, through Mumias OCPD Peter Katam, on Wednesday ruled out the meeting, citing shortage of police officers to man the event, as a majority will be at at the Bukhungu Stadium for the BBI forum.
Reacting to the announcement, the leaders led by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali vowed to proceed with the meeting as planned.
"We are ready, we are going to Mumias as I told you earlier. Its not everything that the police will agree to. We have a right and a permit," he said.
Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi rubbished claims that the meeting has been convened to counter the BBI consultative forum set for Bukhungu.
He also claimed the meeting being disguised as a consultative forum is indirectly a political rally.
"Our Mumias meeting is not a parallel meeting to the BBI one. The BBI meeting in our view is not taking place in Bukhungu, that's a political rally," he claimed.
On Tuesday, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa toured the Mumias venue ahead of the Saturday event.
