Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has predicted a tough days ahead for the Mt Kenya region, should it remain divided as it currently appears.
The community has been divided between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto lately, with area politicians dividing their loyalty between the two.
Speaking on Saturday, the lawmaker said that the region will be the biggest loser should it approach the fast approaching 2022 polls in the current state.
He added that outsiders eyeing the presidency in the 2022 polls are maximizing on the division, stressing on the need for the region to pick a side and uniformly back it.
He claimed that apart from Ruto, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga also seeks to benefit, but warned that the division might see the region misused.
"We will be the ones who will suffer because these people want to go across. If on Ruto's side lets move that way and if we are with Raila lets move there a hundred percent (Sisi ndio tutasuffer tusipokuwa pamoja maana hawa watu wanataka kupasua mlima. Kama tuko na Ruto tuende huko na kama ni Raila tuende a hundred percent)," he said.
He made the remarks on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Saturday morning.
The lawmaker who hails from Kiambu county warned that if not careful, the region might end up like the Western Kenya region which is known for its democratic style of voting.
He cautioned that Kikuyus might go to the polls scattering votes all over, which would be a contravention of its curlute where it normally votes as a block.
"Otherwise we will be like Luhyas who scatter votes everywhere (Otherwise tutakuwa kama Waluhya ambao wanatupa kura kila mahali)," he added.
