Thirdway Alliance Secretary General Fredrick Okang'o has observed that a good number of Kenyans are frustrated by the current crop of politicians, and have vowed not to participate in the next general election.
Okang'o warned that by refusing to vote in 2022, Kenyans will be falling into the trap of political elites, which he said was to frustrate citizens so they can boycott polls and help them retain power.
"If you are frustrated and disgusted by the current politicians and don't bother to vote in the coming elections of 2022, you are in effect voting for the entrenched establishments of the two major parties, who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted, frustrated, cynical and to give you every possible reason to stay away from politics," he tweeted on Sunday night.
Okang'o said it will be inconsequential for some Kenyans to keep off elections, since politicians will still stick to leadership positions even by getting just a few votes.
"By all means don't vote if you want, but don't... yourself that you don't care. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some diehard's vote. David Folster Wallace put it in a better way," Okang'o posted.
