Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti has for the first time narrated his battles with eyesight, which saw him stay out of office for a couple of months.
Mr Awiti, who is serving his second term, has spent the last two years either in court or hospital as he rushed to save his reelection and eyesight.
Speaking on Wednesday in Homa Bay, Awiti said that it's 'God who him' since at some point, he could not see at all. He thanked God for rescuing him.
“I was on the verge of losing my sight some time back. It was a very painful situation. I thank God and the people of Homa Bay for their prayers which delivered me from the problem,” Awiti said.
The ODM governor said that he can now see well and he's able to discharge his duties effectively. He had been asked by doctors to keep off his office.
“I will not forget what God has done to me. I am now able to see very well and discharge my duties as usual,” Awiti said.
Mr Awiti was first admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi when he lost his eyesight temporarily. He was later taken to Germany for treatment.
Throughout that period, he was facing an election petition in court. He lost both at the High Court and Appeals court to Oyugi Magwanga, who contested as an independent candidate.
However, the Supreme Court rescued his victory in April this year, maintaining that he was validly elected by Homa Bay people.
