Shock and grief engulfed residents of Nyota Michorui village in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County after police exhumed the body of a 26-year-old woman who was killed by her husband.
The suspect, Geoffrey Kipkurui had buried the body of his lover, Daisy Chebet, in Bargeret Forest in Kuresoi North, about 300 meters from his home.
The 34-year-old Kipkurui led the police on Wednesday where he had buried Chebet to a shallow grave after he killed her three weeks ago on claims of infidelity.
Molo sub-county Police Commander Isaac Odumbe said the suspect who is a charcoal burner in Bargeret Forest was arrested on Tuesday.
Odumbe said the suspect who led them to the grave where he buried his girlfriend will be arraigned in court to answer to murder charges once investigations are complete.
The police had obtained a court order from a court in Molo to exhume the body where the suspect had buried it.
“The incident is very unfortunate and rare. The suspect will be arraigned once investigations are concluded,” said Odumbe.
The suspect narrowly escaped being beaten by an irate mob that had gathered at the scene that was baying for his blood.
Police whisked him away after residents vowed to lynch him.
The suspect said that his lover was a constant adulterer who spent most of the nights outside and on the fateful date, they had a disagreement and he descended on her with slaps and blows.
“When she came that night, we quarrelled and fought. I was, however, shocked when she collapsed and died,” said Kipkurui.
