Political analyst Dennis Anyonka has doubted soccer star McDonald Mariga's chances of winning the Kibra parliamentary seat, after his nomination to fly the Jubilee Party ticket.
Mariga has since kicked off his campaigns for the race to succeed the late Ken Okoth, a race also including Okoth's brother Imran Okoth, the Orange Democratic Movement aspirant.
But speaking on Monday, Anyonka said that despite the hype about the footballer's candidature, he has so many negatives which will most likely not allow him to win.
He said that Mariga's shyness and inability to express himself will make it hard for him to convince Kibra residents, observing that he was not the best candidate for the party.
"Mariga was the wrong choice, he is not a politician and there is nothing much known about him. Apart from personal weaknesses, he also cannot express himself (Mariga was the wrong choice, yeye si mwanasiasa, there is nothing much unaweza kusema juu yake. Kando na personal weaknesses hawezi jieleza)," he said.
Anyonka, who doubles up as a lawyer, made the remarks on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show on Monday morning.
He said that this, in addition to the integrity issues surrounding his bid; including his contested age, will make it hard for Kibra residents to entrust him with their votes.
"He has integrity issues, he is not even in the voter registrar (Huyu yuko na integrity issues, hata miaka yake haijulikani. Hako hata kwa register ya wapiga kura)," he added.
This comes barely two weeks after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission allowed him to contest despite not being in the voter registrar.
He, however, holds a voters card.
