Ouko has been accused members of parliament of hiring his tribesmen. It has emerged that only two communities dominated the workforce at his office, which makes the process of hiring to lack a national outlook.

Out of the 916 employees at Ouko’s office, 325 of them come from his Luo community.

The said number is 35.48 percent of the total whereas there are more than 40 tribes in the country.

In a report, which was tabled in parliament the Deputy-Auditor General Director in charge of corporate services Joyce Mbaabu there is lack of transparency in the hiring process.

The number has risen from 13.79 percent of 834 labour force at the office before the promulgation of the new constitution in 2010.

The Kikuyu community has 353 employees which translate to 42.33 percent of the workforce at the office.

The numbers of the Luos in the office increased upon Ouko taking over office. Lagdera MP Mohamed Garane asked members of parliament to ensure that there is equality when it comes to jobs.

He noted that it is unacceptable for some communities to dominate the workforce in certain offices when we are preaching equality across the board.

“We must stop this idea where the ethnic group where the CEO comes from is where you get more employees. It is unfortunate that the office of the Auditor-General is having these discrepancies,” said Garane, as quoted by Daily Nation.
