Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has bowed to pressure and apologised for using another boy’s photo as his own throwback (TBT).
In a post on his social media platforms on Thursday, Mwaura posted a photo of an albino boy addressing fellow kids and captioned it as his own.
"I started addressing a political gathering at the age of four years. A great TBT in 1986 at Githunguri, Kiambu County," he wrote in a post which has since been pulled down.
After the post went viral, it was established the boy in the photo was not Mwaura, but a Malawian kid identified as Cassim Jaffalie, who was three years old when it was taken by the Associated Press (AP) in 2016.
Barely hours after the post attracted harsh criticism from netizens, Mwaura, who is currently on official duty in the United States, came out to apologise to the online community.
The Jubilee Senator absolved himself from the blame and pointed an accusing finger at his social media handlers for making an 'innocent mistake'.
"Many times those who work with us do a terrific job to pass our message out there and people are able to appreciate what we do to make change. We get the credit for it. Yet at times they don’t get it right. I was surprised to wake up in New York, 7 hours behind to get inboxes about a photo that 'I took while young in 1986'."
"Yes, I was in nursery school and a class prefect in 1987, and this could have inspired my team to use a wrong photo that wasn’t mine to pass the message. Apologies for that. There is always a better way to do a # TBT My team always does a good job, save for incidences like these," Mwaura posted.
