A teenage boy from Nakuru County beat all odds to shine in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Despite losing his mother just before the national exams started in November, James Ngoima managed to score an A-.
Ngoima who had 78 points said he wants to study medicine when he goes to University.
Studying at Annester Boys Lanet High School in Nakuru, Ngoima lost his mother two weeks to the exams.
Annester Boys High School had fully sponsored Ngoima's education at the institution.
Speaking to the Star, Ngoima attributed his success to discipline, hard work, dedication and prayers, adding that support from teachers and parents led to his excellent performance.
“I would like to thank my teachers and parents for their support. My dream is to study medicine,” he said.
The school principal, James Kamunge, said Ngoima performed well in school and always emerged top in his class.
The school was among top performers in the county, with 24 candidates scoring grade A-.
