President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally confirmed that he will visit Kisumu County on Thursday.
This follows a lot of speculations that the much anticipated visit could flop, considering that his office was yet to confirm the same.
Speaking during the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Wednesday, Uhuru confirmed that he will preside over the launch of the Universal Healthcare Coverage.
"Tomorrow I will be in Kisumu for the launch of the Universal Healthcare Coverage. The county is one of the counties selected for the pilot programe," he said.
He noted that locals and residents will be able to benefit from free healthcare in all public facilities for the next several months.
This is as the government tests its ability to roll out the program throughout the nation.
"Courtesy of this, Kenyans will be able to get free healthcare in all public facilities from smaller ones all the way to federal hospitals for the next 18 months," said.
However, the President did not touch on any political activities and engagements that might also play out in the tour.
This is with consideration that some regional leaders had initially claimed that he will use the same to give the way forwards on his March 9 truce with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Odinga, the Luo Nyanza political kingpin is set to accompany him in the tour.
