Reports indicate that the assailants broke into the house of the victims before committing the crime.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru Police commander Stephen Matu termed the murders as shocking and brutal.

“We received shocking news of a woman and her son who were attacked and brutally killed in their house,” Mr Matu stated.

The bodies of the two were discovered by a neighbour on Sunday morning who had noticed stains of blood on the door which had been locked from outside.

The neighbour proceeded to report the matter to the police and alerted other neighbours.

Nakuru Police commander pointed out that it is suspected the victims were killed using a panga. He further confirmed that investigations into the case commenced.

“Though we did not recover murder weapons, preliminary investigations indicate that the two were slit to death with a panga,” he said.

The area residents raised concern over insecurity and called for proper investigations to be conducted.

"It is scaring to have daring criminals breaking into houses to steal and kill people. We need proper investigations into the matter,"  Beatrice Muthoni, an area resident, told The Standard.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Egerton University morgue. Further reports indicate that Nakuru county has experienced an increase in cases of killings.
