Okoth gifted the first lady a black handbag which was handcrafted by women in Kibra.

The MP presented the gift to Mrs Kenyatta during the launch of the Beyond Zero Campaign in the constituency in 2015.

The handbag which was given to the first lady was aimed at symbolising the innovation of residents in Kibra constituency and what they can deliver when empowered.

Okoth has been battling colorectal cancer for quite some time. He made a public appearance about ten days ago after he jetted back into the country from France where he had been receiving treatment.

He was taken to the Nairobi Hospital on Thursday after his condition got worse. His brother Imran Okoth revealed that the MP had requested not to be put on life support in the event his organs failed.

Kenyans and leaders across the county are continuing to send their messages of condolences to Okoth's family.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday eulogised Okoth as an astute legislator.

"It is with a heavy heart that I have this afternoon received the sad news of the death of Kibra MP Hon Ken Okoth. Death has robbed us of an astute legislator. May God comfort his family, friends & indeed all Kenyans during this difficult period of mourning," said Uhuru.
