Kenya Ports Authority men’s team shocked many by flooring the favourites, Kenya Prisons on Thursday at the Kapsabet showground in Nandi County.
KPA won 3-2 (25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 26-28 and 15-13) booking a play-offs slot in the ongoing Kenya Volleyball Federation tournament.
The Mombasa-based side then pulled another surprise by beating Kenya Defence Forces deservedly. They won 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20) moving them to 26 points and joint top with defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) who have one game in hand.
KPA's final battle will be against Administration Police (AP) on Friday as General Service Unit (GSU) wait to face Equity Bank and Administration Police on Friday too.
While revealing the force behind the impressive results, KPA coach Samson Sunguti said training together had a huge impact. This has not been the case because most players do not live in Mombasa or at the Coast.
“It’s too early to call but I can firmly say we are in the play-offs. I’m glad the hard work has finally paid off. However, we will not be carried away with the wins of today as our focus is on the last match against AP but I must admit, we are extremely happy for the two massive wins against Prisons and KDF,” Sunguti said.
