Speaking exclusively to Kenya Television Network (KTN), Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, who also doubles up as the vice-chair of the Transport, Public Works and Housing Committee of the National Assembly, revealed that the CS had been summoned to appear before a parliamentary committee on Thursday.

"So we have summoned today the cabinet secretary for transport on Thursday the day after tomorrow to appear before the committee and hopefully answer questions about this preparedness," Moses Kuria said.

The outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator said that the incident raised serious security issues and the country's state of preparedness to deal with disasters.

Kenyans have castigated the government for responding to the tragedy more than 48 hours after it took place on Sunday evening.

Moses Kuria wondered whether the government was in a state to respond adequately to a terrorist attack at the coast in the Indian Ocean given the zero immediate response to the sinking of the car in the Likoni tragedy.

According to eyewitness accounts, the ill-fated vehicle stayed afloat for about 20 minutes before it sunk, enough time, according to experts, for a rescue effort to have been launched.
