Besieged Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has lost his cousin who passed away on Saturday mourning in Nairobi.
Dida Hadija, Sonko said in a tweet on Saturday, was a daughter to his late mother's sister.
The City Hall boss described the deceased as a dedicated and instrumental person who thrived in businesses and well being of the family.
"It’s with heartfelt condolences to learn passing on of my cousin, Dida Hadija, daughter to my late Mum's sister. Dida was an instrumental person to our family," he said.
"She was committed to her work, businesses & wellbeing of other family members. Her burial will be held at Kikowani cemetery," added Sonko.
For weeks now, Sonko has taken a low profile following his arraignment over alleged corruption deals at City Hall.
A Nairobi court blocked Mr Sonko from accessing his office until the Sh357 million case is heard and determined, almost causing leadership vacuum at City Hall.
Sonko has been operating without a deputy following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.
The stylish governor was first elected as Makadara MP in 2010 following a by-election before winning the senatorial seat in 2013. He was elected governor in 2017.
