Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i will on Sunday lead a fundraiser at Wangapala SDA Church in Homa Bay County, it has been confirmed.
Sunday's trip will be the third to populous Luo Nyanza region, which has seen Raila Odinga dominate local politics for decades now.
At Gusii region, Dr Matiang'i is under pressure to join State House race, a move that precipitated Mr Odinga to react to calls to endorse him.
"Matiang'i is my own son. I know what's good for him. Let him work for our people. It's too early to start that debate. I shall guide him," Odinga told mourners at Dr Hezron Manduku's funeral.
Leaders under the stewardship of Governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama have been rallying the Abagusii community to endorse Dr Matiang'i.
Although Matiang'i is yet to declare, his supporters have been at loggerheads with those of Dr William Ruto. On Saturday, a number of his supporters demonstrated against the DP who visited Nyamira.
Jubilee youth leader Brian Mamboleo, a close ally of Dr Fred Matiang'i, confirmed the powerful minister's trip to Homa Bay where he will be hosted by Gladys Wanga.
"Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i to tour Homa Bay County today," he said without giving much details about the rare function.
In June, Dr Matiang'i visited Suna East region where he was hosted by Minority Chief Whip Junet Mohamed among other Luo Nyanza leaders. He had earlier visited Homa Bay.
Minority Leader John Mbadi, in a recent fundraiser at Riokindo High School, hailed the minister for his dedication to serve the country, promising 'good news ahead'.
"We are happy that the minister is doing his work well. As the people of Nyanza, this is great news. He is going places and we shall support him."
