City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has dismissed Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana's 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking in Turkana County on Thursday during the Tubong'u Lore annual cultural festival, Kibwana, who is serving his second and final term in office, announced he will be on the ballot seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kipkorir poured cold water on the governor's ambition, saying even though he had been prudent in the management of county funds, the presidency was a tough call for him.
The renowned lawyer opined Kibwana lacked the necessary ideas and charisma to make him a Head of State.
"That a Governor is able to use his budgetary allocation without wastage isn’t a qualification to be President...Presidency demands a leader who has transformative ideas and charisma...My good Professor needs to transform his County first. The Presidency is above his league," he tweeted.
In another post on Saturday, Kipkorir said for Kibwana to qualify for the top seat, he should have revolutionary traits similar to the ones possessed by the late Burkina Faso iconic leader Thomas Sankara.
"...Presidency demands a transformative leadership ... Thomas Sankara transformed a whole nation in three years! Building hospitals and milk factory isn’t," he said.
Kibwana in 2018 won many hearts after he commissioned the state of the art Makueni Mother and Child Hospital which was put up at a cost Sh135 million.
Through hashtag #ApendeAsipende, a section of Kenyans on Twitter recently vowed to rally behind the county boss in the 2022 presidential race, regardless of whether he likes or not.
