His remarks come at a time when there are two camps seeking to change the constitution; the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and the Punguza Mizigo bill.

In a tweet on Sunday, the Barasa noted that Kenya does not need a referendum to better the lives of her people, but is in dire need of a better set of political leaders.

He said that all the nation needs are leaders who harbour the interests of the people in their hearts and not a referendum as is being lobbied by some politicians.

"We don't need constitutional changes for us as a nation to realise development or change the lives of our people. All we need are selfless leaders who have interests of people at heart," he said.

Led by Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot, Punguza Mizigo seeks to reduce the country's elective representation to reduce the cost of running the government.

On the other hand, the BBI under Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga is pursuing an expanded executive arm of the government.

Raila and team have insisted that it's only through a larger executive that the nation can erase the feeling of exclusion among some Kenyans.
