Condoms come in different textures and flavours. More so, they also differ in quality thus have different prices, ranging from the ones distributed freely by the government to the very expensive ones.

At Kenyatta University, there are free condoms which students can pick from the dispensers in washrooms, the health unit or from the housekeeper's office. The move is aimed at ensuring sexually active students engage in safe sex.

However, most female students dislike these free condoms due to various reasons.

Here are some of the reasons why female students refuse to use free condoms.

1. They are supplied free of charge

As indicated above, these condoms are supplied freely in all washrooms in the university. Ladies at the campus believe guys who use the free condoms take them for granted and view them as 'cheap girls'.

"I have been using these condoms for so long, but I don't understand why this lady is rejecting them. If they were unsafe the campus would not allow them inside the university," said Cony, one of the guys who was denied sex over using Sure condoms.

2. They have a bad scent

Most ladies at the campus dislike the scent of regular condoms, claiming it is a turn-off. The ladies prefer condoms that come in different flavours such as strawberry, banana and even chocolate.

3. They're not 'safe'

This misconception can be traced back to the phrase "cheap is expensive". Because the condoms are supplied free of charge, female students believe they are not 100 per cent safe for use.

"If you love me you won't be using these condoms. I don't want to use P2," Cony was told.
